Dear
CERT Applicant,
Thank
you for your interest in applying to become a volunteer
CERT member for the Town of Branford. All of us involved
in Emergency Management are encouraged by your
participation. The town’s intention is to accept
applications throughout the month of December and select
25-30 candidates for training which will begin in
January 2007.
As a
volunteer CERT member your mission in the community will
consist of supporting emergency operations during times
of disaster or other times when the resources of first
responders are overwhelmed. These missions will include;
sheltering operations, commodities distribution, basic
first aid, light search and rescue, minor traffic
control, and any other tasks that are determined as
necessary to support the welfare of our citizens.
We
are developing an excellent training program utilizing
emergency services professionals teaching a nationally
recognized format that I am confident each participant
will benefit from immensely. We are including some
“hands on” portions so that you may apply what you learn
during the course. The training consists of
approximately 30-40 hours with training times that will
most likely be scheduled during evenings and weekends.
All training, training materials and refreshments will
be provided free of charge under a federal grant
program. Upon completion of the training you will
receive a CERT response kit and a certificate of
completion.
Please return your application to the Branford Police
Department at 33 Laurel Street by January 15, 2007 to
the attention of “Lieutenant Morgan”. If selected,
you will be notified and informed of the training
schedule.
