Take
a load off at the Transfer Station!
Now accepting
clothing and other textiles!
The
Town of Branford is pleased to announce that clean, dry
clothing and other textiles including bedding, towels, and
draperies are now being accepted at the Branford Transfer
Station during regular business hours. The items are being
collected for re-use and recycling in bins placed at the
Transfer Station by not-for-profit organizations Childhood
Dreams (www.childhooddreamsfdn.org)
and Easter Seals/Goodwill www.newhavengoodwill.easterseals.com
.
It does not matter if the items are ripped, stained,
missing buttons or zippers, or cannot otherwise be re-used
as clothing as long as they are clean and dry. Overly worn,
ripped, or stained cloth items are recycled to become
polishing cloths, or shredded to make car insulation, seat
stuffing, even high-quality paper! If textiles are wet or
mildewed, however, they cannot be re-used or recycled so
wash those first, or throw them away.
By
donating textiles
to these organizations, Branford residents also help
themselves by saving tax dollars. About 4% of municipal
solid waste is textiles, so removing these items from the
waste stream saves taxpayers money on tip fees for trash.
