Leaves

Trash

Cardboard

Yard Waste

Before you call…see if there was a reason why.

Do you have the right week?

Cardboard is once a month. Leaves are spring and fall, and only every other week in spring.

Do you have the right day?

Was there a holiday where the transfer station was closed?

Do you have the right time?

You must put materials out the night before pick up. Collection should be done by 1:30 PM. Cardboard and leaves are different trucks – did you wait long enough?

Is there a sticker on it?

The hauler should put on orange sticker on trash or green sticker on recycling if it was left behind for a reason.

Is it too heavy? Frozen?

Can it be lifted by one human? We don’t have mechanized collection, so don’t accept cans over 50 pounds or over 45 gallons. We don’t want back injuries.

Is it too much?

We only take 3 bags of yard waste. We take regular household trash, but not from cleaning out your whole house/basement/attic, etc. No limit on leaves, cardboard, or recyclables.

Is the trash burnable?

Our trash is burned to make electricity. We don’t take metal, construction debris, road sand, etc.

Are they the right recyclables?

Check here. We don’t take plastic bags or colored or clear plastic bottles.

Is it visible / reachable?

Materials must be at the curb. Were there parked cars? Is it behind a hedge?

Is it packaged correctly?

Leaves must be in paper leaf bags or loose in a can – never in plastic! Newspaper must be in paper bags or tied – never in plastic! Bottles & cans must be loose in the recycling box. Branches can’t be sticking way out of the can.

Are materials mixed together?

We compost leaves, so they can’t be mixed with trash, or branches. Newspaper should never have cardboard or bottles & cans in the same bag. Recyclables mustn’t be in the trash.

Did you give us grass clippings?

It is against state law for us to take them.

Did you give us toxic materials?

Call HazWaste Central for info on free disposal of pesticides, oil-based paints, chemicals, etc. at 401-2712

Is it dangerous to the workers?

Don’t spray the trash with bleach or ammonia, or put broken glass in the recycling, or poison ivy/prickers loose.
