Volunteers wanted – to clean fishway at supply pond:

  1. the alewives are running - you can actually see several at the bottom of the fishway (look under the bubbles at the entrance to the quiet water of the low-level dam outlet)
  2. we need to unclog the pipes in the fish counter at the top of the dam DAILY (or more).

If you have time, the way to unclog the pipes is to lie down on the grating, roll up your right sleeve, hold on with your left arm and pull the long green weeds (milfoil) out of the pipes.  Throw the milfoil over the dam, not back into the water.

So far, it looks like we have had another good year with over 2,500 fish passing, most in the last several days.  Go to Short Rocks Road (the first left off of Mill Plain Road if you are going North on Mill Plain).  The entrance to the fishway is about 1/4 mile down - the gravel parking space on the left as you come up to the ponds.  Follow the trail to the dam and walk to the end of the dam - there it is!

Call with any questions.

Regards,

Tom Cleveland
