Chief Thomas Mahoney: Chief Mahoney, started his career in fire safety as a volunteer in his hometown of Madison in 1987. He became a career firefighter with the Branford Fire Department in 1995, before ascending to position of deputy chief in 2001.
Mahoney has been living in Branford with his wife, Sherry, and their three children since 2013.
Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Shaun Heffernan:
Shaun Heffernan has been involved in the Fire and Emergency Medical Service for the past 19 years. He joined the Branford Fire Department Indian Neck Company 9, while still in high school, as a volunteer firefighter in 1988 and soon after became an Emergency Medical Technician. Shaun spent 4 years working as an Emergency Department Technician at Yale Hew Haven Hospital prior to becoming a Paramedic in 1995. He worked part-time as a 911 dispatcher for the Branford Fire Department beginning in 1992 until he was hired fulltime in 1995, a position in which remained until 1998 when he was hired as a career firefighter/paramedic a position he held for 8 years until being made Assistant Chief of the Department. He was recognized 1999 for his heroism.
Shaun is an adjunct faculty member at Yale University School of Medicine, Section of Emergency Medicine, where he serves the Advanced Cardiac Life Support Program Coordinator. He is currently the advisor for the Yale Student Emergency Medical Service. Shaun is a Paramedic Field Instructor for New Haven Sponsor Hospital as well as a regional faculty member of the American Heart Association.
When not working within the Fire/EMS service, Shaun serves as a volunteer with numerous pediatric cancer organizations. He is a founding Director on the board of the Camp Rising Sun Charitable Foundation and serves as a volunteer counselor at the American Cancer Society’s Camp Rising Sun, a camp for kids with cancer.
Shaun is married and resides in North Branford, Connecticut with his wife, Jody, an APRN and his daughter Carolyn.
