Covid-19 Procedure for Services

Due to safety precautions following the Covid-19 virus, Please read below for availability of services from The Town Clerk's Office:

Town Hall has re-opened to the public to serve your needs 8:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday. Please wear a face covering and use hand sanitizer upon entering Town Hall. However, if for health reasons you prefer remote services, you are encouraged to mail your request or drop it in the drop box in the lobby of Town Hall. Please see below for special instructions, and thank you for your patience and flexibility during this pandemic. Be well!

Funeral Directors:

To file death certificates:  In-Person or by mail to PO Box 150 Branford CT 06405 or place in the drop box in the lobby of Town Hall at 1019 Main Street, Branford, CT.  Requests for certified copies will be fulfilled and mailed the same day we receive the request.  Please provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope for mailing.

Certified copies of Birth, Death or Marriage Certificates:

In-Person or request by mail; print form from Town Clerk’s web page-certified copies will be mailed back; please provide a self-addressed envelope.  Call 203-315-0678 with questions.

Absentee Ballot Applications for the Presidential Preference Primaries:

The Democratic and Republican primaries have been moved to August 11, 2020.  Due to COVID-19, the Office of the Secretary of the State will soon be mailing all registered Democrats and Republicans an Application for Absentee Ballot Form which will be personalized with your name and address on it and will include a return envelope to mail it to the Town Clerk's office.  NOTE:  Absentee ballot applications previously submitted to this office are on file and will be honored for the August 11th primaries.  For voters who have completed an Application for Absentee Ballot, absentee ballots will be mailed to voters in July.  Click here for more information.

Getting Married?

Marriage licenses are processed by appointment after the marriage license worksheet is completed and emailed with photos of driver’s licenses.  Click here for a list of Justices of the Peace (marriage officiants.)  Call (203) 315-0678 for further instructions.

Land Records Online searches & How-to instructions for first-time online users.  Recordings for the general public, attorneys, submitters,  lenders and servicers may be made in-person 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or you may mail recordings to PO Box 150, Branford, CT  06405 or you may place them in the Town Hall lobby drop box. Include a phone number and email address so we may provide you the recording receipt.  For in-person records searches for records prior to 1991 please call (203) 315-0678 for an appointment.

Shellfish Permits

Free for Seniors 65 and over Handled in-person, or email/mail a photo of your driver’s license with current address and we will mail out your new permit.

For Branford residents ages 16-64:  In-Person or mail a $5.00 check payable to “Branford Town Clerk” with a copy of your driver’s license and a self-addressed envelope for permit to be mailed.

Fishing and Hunting Licenses:   No longer available at the Town Clerk’s office as of June, 2019.  Renew online through the State portal.

Trade Name Certificates:  Mail completed/notarized form with $10 check for recording fee.  If you require a certified copy to be returned, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope and an additional $3.

Liquor Permits:  Per the Governor's Executive Order #7W, All on-premise liquor permits in active status on March 16, 2020 (when Executive Order #7D went into effect) shall be extended by four months, including any business whose permit expired between March 16 and April 9th.  Permits may now be recorded with the town clerk's office now that Town Hall has reopened.

Notary Public:  Record your notary public commission in-person.  If you need notary public services, please call (203) 315-0678 for an appointment.

Dog Licenses:  Current licenses are valid through July 1st.  New licensing begins June 1st.  Complete this form and follow Special COVID-19 instructions or call for further instructions on licensing a new dog.  You may also license in-person at Town Hall.
