Summary of Job:
Position Summary/Purpose:
Performs a variety of routine and complex clerical and administrative work in keeping official records, providing support to the Tax staff, and assisting in the standard operating policies and procedures of the department. Collects sewer assessment; assess for sewers; and agreements.

Essential Job Functions

• Sewer/Tax bill preparation and collections: Balance receipts at the end of each month or as needed.
• Process payments via mail and over the counter, post and balance each day
• Maintain spreadsheet of new accounts in conjunction with the Engineering Department.
• Assign and enter new accounts and administer agreements
• Error Corrections
• Prepare sewer assessment legal notices for newspaper

Other Functions:
• Other duties & responsibilities assigned by the Tax Collector or Assistant Tax Collector.
• Adjustments of clerk errors
• Handle customer inquiries
• Open mail and enter payments. Sent balance due letters when appropriate.
• Prepare outgoing mail

Supervision:
Supervision Scope: Performs varied and responsible clerical duties requiring the knowledge of implementing sewer applications and billing. Exercise good judgment and initiative in effectively and efficiently following department policies and practices.

Supervision Received: Works under the general direction of the Tax Collector or his/her designee.

Supervision Given: None.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, filing, accounting and bookkeeping, and two (2) years of increasingly responsible related experience, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Special Requirements: Detailed orientated with an aptitude for working with numbers.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of Microsoft office, Outlook; modern office practices and procedures; some knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

Ability: Ability to perform cashier duties accurately; ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to handle stressful situations.

Skill: Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Strong customer service skills.

Tools and Equipment used
Personal computer; copy machine; scanner; postage machine; fax machine; calculator.

Job Environment:
Administrative work is performed in a moderately quiet office with regular interruptions during the day from the public via telephone or in person.

Requires the operation of telephones, personal computers, copiers, facsimile machines, and other standard office equipment.

Makes frequent and periodic contact with property owners, Town staff and Town officials. Communication is frequently in person, telephone email and in writing. Work requires a high level of professionalism.

Errors in judgment or omissions could result in delay of services, monetary loss, and legal ramifications.
