The Office of Emergency Management is responsible for:

  • Coordinating Branford's emergency management needs. This includes emergency management planning, preparation activities such as training and exercises, response support coordination during emergencies and coordination of recovery programs following emergencies. As such Branford's Office of Emergency Management works closely with local and State public safety organizations to facilitate a coordinated approach to emergencies.
  • Community preparedness through planning, risk reduction, response and recovery.
  • Determining available emergency resources at the local, state and federal level as well as developing a set of plans to utilize those resources along with volunteer and commercial donations to deliver such resources to the community.
  • Must also take measures to minimize or reduce risks from the effects of such hazards as ice storms, major snowstorms, flooding, hurricanes, hazardous waste discharge and all other events deemed a risk to the community.

 

Preparation and communication are the keys to helping Branford survive an emergency or disaster. Emergency management personnel are responsible for monitoring conditions and warning emergency services such as Police, Fire, Rescue, and Ambulance along with warning Branford officials and the public.

Such notification will come in a number of ways:

  • Local News, (Television and radio, BCTV)
  • NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association) Radio is the best means to receive storm information.
  • Police and Fire officials going door to door or broadcasting in neighborhoods.
