Curbside Collection Policy February 2020

Curbside Trash Collection Container Guidelines

It has been brought to our attention that a growing number of residents have been placing oversized/overweight trash containers curbside for collection. Such as, large toters on wheels.

It is important to note that curbside trash collection is not done by machine, it is done manually. These oversized/overweight containers are very heavy and unsafe for the workers to lift.

The Code of the Town of Branford states that that no single container of refuse or recyclables shall weigh more than 50 pounds.

All curbside trash containers must: be smaller than 50 gallons in size, have handles and weigh less than 50 pounds when full.

The current hauler has been picking up overweight/oversized containers as a courtesy to residents in the past. However, beginning in February 2020, the oversized/overweight container policy will be enforced and materials will not be collected.

If you have been using an oversized container for curbside trash collection please make arrangements to replace it as soon as possible to avoid any interruptions in your weekly curbside collection.
