Job Summary:
The purposes of this position is to perform a variety of non-sworn duties in the enforcement in guidance and control of vehicular and/or pedestrian traffic at places such as schools, churches, crossings, beaches, and Town events.
• Monitor traffic flow to locate safe gaps through which pedestrians/students can cross streets
• Direct or escort pedestrians/students across streets, stopping traffic as necessary
• Direct traffic movement or warn of hazards, using signs, flags, lanterns, and hand signals
• Learn the location and purpose of street traffic signs within assigned patrol areas
• Discuss traffic routing plans and control point locations with superiors
• Maintain thorough knowledge of the latest traffic and parking regulations
• Assists other departments as needed to promote a team effort to serve the public

Supervision:
• Works under the general direction of the Detective in charge of Traffic

Qualifications:
• Must have a valid CT Driver’s license
• Complete training in traffic control and parking enforcement
Knowledge & Ability:
• Knowledge of local streets and roadways in Branford
• Local traffic and parking regulations
• Good problem solving skills; including effective verbal communication skills
Job Environment:
• Work is most often performed in assigned locations and requires working in all types of weather
